We frequently hear the question “how often should you post on social media?” when we talk to people. It is not a question that has an absolute answer, but one that needs more digging in order to give an educated response. How often you should post on social media can be different for every business owner. There are quite a few factors that go into determining the answer, and business owners truly should take the time to figure it out (or hire someone who can do it for them). In the meantime, here are a few tips to get you started:
Have you figured out who your target market is? If so where are they hanging out (meaning, what platform(s) are they using)? This is the first step you want to take when figuring out your social media strategy, and that includes the frequency of your posting. Once you figure this out, that will point you in the direction of what platform(s) you should be using. That will then give you a better idea of how OFTEN you should be posting.
Have you stalked your competition? You do not have to reinvent the wheel. Check out your competition, see what they are doing, and if they seem to have it figured out, you can test it with your own followers to see if it works for you. social media is all about testing. If at first, you don’t succeed, try try again. Right? We learned this at an early age. I am sure your competition did not come out of the gate a raving success.
Above all, be consistent. It is important that you show up, and show up often. So, make your goal attainable when it comes to social media. If you know you can post at least three times a week, then stick with that until you are confident you can CONSISTENTLY show up more often.
In the meantime, here are some basics:
- Facebook: 1-2 times a day.
- Instagram: 1-2 times a day.
- Twitter: 3-5 times a day.
- LinkedIn: 1 time a day.
- Pinterest: 3 times a day.
